For the past couple of nights a significant number of bees has been hanging around on the landing of the hive. The evenings are warm right now (22 degrees right now in the north of Italy) but it's nearly midnight and they are still there.
Any thoughts?
This picture just taken...
Thanks

Is there a flow on? during a flow bees spend the night ripening the nectar collected that day, they need room to circulate air around the hive to remove the water, and as all the bees are 'at home' at night, they hang around on the outside for the ripener bees to do their work.

Mine do it all the time when it's warm and humid ... big colonys sometims so I suspect that they may feel a little warm inside and they are out for a breath of air and if you looked closely, when there is honey being ripened, you may well find that there are a lot of bees just inside the entrance fanning like crazy - lovely sound that generator hum.

Ahh ... JBM beat me to it ...
