I have been offered a quantity of tantalised timber. Is it safe to use
in the construction of hive floors ?

Various chemicals are involved in the tanalising process including salt(s) of arsenic. That being the case, I would not use it when it's permanently in the hive enclosure - too risky. You should not even handle damp tanalised wood without wearing gloves in case you absorb the poisons through your skin.

No arsenic left in the timber after the tanalising processs and it was banned in EU in 2006 anyway.

Most authorities you search on are quite happy with its use in beehives.

Thank you for your replies. Am I therefore right to assume tantalised timber
is OK to build roofs with as there is less contact with the Bees ?
