Was five now four. Grrrrr
Is there any reason, other than the obvious wax moth issue, of storing supers with frames and new foundation on top of the hive over a sealed crown board?

Winter storms blowing the whole lot over would be my concern.

Ok thanks that's a simple siting-engineering issue.

Foundation can become very brittle if over wintered on top of a hive if the comb is drawn then not so much of a problem. The use of a ratchet strap around the whole hive can give the hive more stability especially if it is strapped to the stand.

Thanks Galaxy, is it just the cold?

Yes, that's right - we always avoid storing frames of foundation at our clubs apiary unless they can be stored at temperature that stay above freezing.

Ok understood thanks.

I am happy to make up the frames and keep the foundation at home, as a stapler and a few minutes has them finished.

It's soooo much easier to just have the stuff there in case you need it and I can't have a shed on the apiary although I do have a small undercover storage area for tools and stuff.
