Can you use camden tablets for sterilising sugar syrup? If yes what dosage?

SteveJ

Why should you need to sterilise a sugar syrup. Made up with tap water it should be all right and made up at a 2:1 ratio it is a saturate and should not allow the growth of anything. If you require to inhibit fermentation use a thymol mixture search elsewhere on this forum for the recipe.

Made up to much last year and it went mouldy over winter. Only thought about using camden tablet because I've got some already.

Sodium metabisulfite? What ever next to inflict on the bees?

Try a desert spoon of Organic cider vinegar with each litre, I do.

Great stuff- preserves the syrup, stops mould growing in the feeders, inhibits nosema, inhibits varroa- just don't let them put any in the supers!

My God! These poor helpless creatures.

Keep it clean use Ambrosia unless you need a treatment then Hivemaker is best?

Whats the cider vinegar for please?

Arthritis?

No, seriously it prevents bacteria in light syrup feed when the weather is warm - not that it would normally be in the feeder for long.:)

It may even help with mites, who knows? Mind you, I doubt it somehow.
