As you may know and can tell i'm crap with grammar and keeping bee's but on a good note if i'm interested in something it's like metal filing's sticking to a magnet ie knowledge sticking to the small grey matter in my cranium which mean's it stick's..

I have had this little colony for around 1mth now and it seem's to be growing well.. the hive is placed 25 yrd's from marsh land that hold's lot's of species of weed..one being Meadow sweet that smell's gorgeous But yield's no nectar .. (it must however produce pollen as the bee's hammer it) ..

There's also an abundance of rose bay willow herb/ thistle/ exotic garden flower's and a million mile of cover crop's that the gamekeeper plant's every year.. from my past 2 yr's of googling and doing research i would say this is the ultimate spot for a bee colony.. i may well be wrong but here is some picture from today..

SPOT THE **** by the way..

Here is one i missed lol.. is there any hint's or tip's for keeping wasp's away.. i know the sugar supply will be drying up in the wasp brood nest so i was thinking of trying to place a type of feeder away from the hive to try and draw them to that..but i fear the bee's would pick up on such a thing..

You can reduce the entrance size, place something in front to confuse the Jaspers, put up a trap but do not bait it with sugar or honey or you can try to follow its flight path and hunt out the nest. See how much hassle you get first.
Beautiful spot.

Not a crtisism, merely an observation but I have my bottom brood box with frames running front to back, any reason you don't? First picture is amazing!

Sorry if I sound stupid but how have you deduced that from the pics? I still don't have bees lol.

Good observation Enrico.. from research and limited hand's on hive inspection experience i pref-are to be stood at the back of the hive not the side while messing on .. also the Warm way gives a more even pattern of brood and food around the frames towards the middle of the brood box .. as apposed to the cold way where much of the front corners of frames are ignored at the entrance area to the hive.. the way i have decided to do it the warm way result's in a easier life and not so much wasted brood and food space..

Still learning but it sound's good too me.. lol

Your hive is set up warm way, it's not wrong just depends how you inspect. Usually from behind or from the side when set up is cold way. Either way, the bees won't mind.

It is something i have drummed in my head so i will stick to it.. the Warm way does sound better though especially winter time.. lol

yep, that's all good for traditional floors, but with an OMF and a possibly reduced entrance, it makes some but not as much difference with temperature distribution.

As I say, no criticism, just interested in people's reasoning and that answered my question. Thanks

I have just re read this post (Wessexmario) and i must add that i do have a open mesh floor but i have a tight fitting inspection board that i have modified myself to make it more or less air tight.. should that make a difference.. either way i will stick with the warm way..
