Not sure if this has been asked before, I typed sound in the search but never found a direct answer.
what should new hive/ Nuc Occupied obviously Sound like?
when i get close mine sounds like a bowl of rice crispies IE snap, crackle & pop. at about the same volume too.
I would love to hear (pardon the pun )what others sound like.

I believe 'snap, crackle, pop' is the sound of comb building.

Or bees getting squished?

I have heard bees crunching wax at the entrance of a nuc box. They made the entrance bigger and smaller according to what they fancied by filling in with wax.

My paynes hive makes that sound as the bees chew it.
One of the nicest sounds is like an air conditioning unit in the evening.

I had the ROAR of a queenless colony the other day... it's very distinctive and a sad sound to hear =O(

(I added a friend's frame of brood and QCs though, and now they seem to be pretty happy... am guessing/hoping there is a virgin queen in there now waiting to get out for a day on the tiles ;O) )

I use apideas and having stocked them with bees and queen cells keep 18 of them in my garage for 2 or 3 days prior to setting them out so hear Q piping every time I go in my garage to give them a spray of water. Anyone heard workers in a colony piping prior to the swarm leaving?
