I decided to go through the receipts I intentionally kept this year to see how much I had spent on this profitable hobby. Of course, this doesn't cover occasional purchases for cash, but it's reasonably close. My final amount was €1042.62, which is £762.33 according to Google. I haven't had to add any costs for medical treatment for frustration and palpitations this year, but I've no doubt that will have to be added on in future years.

On the bright side, I have 3 poly hives and four apideas that I can use next year, along with plenty of drawn comb, so I suppose it might not be as bad next year (yes, I know I'm kidding myself).

Anyway, how do I compare to others? Remember that I only have 3 hives (got to 4, but the laying workers forced me to terminate one.

I would guess that my costs were pretty similar to yours and not even a single jar of hunny ! Pooh would despair...
Next year!

I'm being careful incase the wife reads this! But just over £2k biggest expense was a £600 electric extractor, plus 8 Buckfast queens.

Before AFB struck, I spent:
New frame and foundation: £70

After AFB:
New insulation (ebay) £15
Glue/paint/fixings £25
Queens £70
Wood (clearance Wickes) £15 (new TBH bars)
Sugar winter feed £30
New mesh £15
New feeders £20

Total £260
Less:
Insurance claim £125
Swarm collection £180

Net expenditure £(45)

A Lot !!! and A Lot more... but with hives aplenty and polynucs and a shiny extractor and essential kit ... I am ready to dominate the Local Honey market for 2016 !!!

Just got to negotiate an all Ireland and UK supply deal with Tescos !! :D

I wouldn't like to say, my wife reads this forum. :nono:

My husband doesn't read the forum but he's seen the running total for my beekeeping.(Why?!) Needless to say he's acquired another synth now just to try and even up the score. :)

Just spent WAY to much in the sales.......I'm out of control!

Have no wish to keep a total but less than usual, only wax, seconds frames, Apiguard, jars and two Thrones Anynucs out of curiosity.
Next year will be even cheaper as I will only need jars and varroa treatment.
Cazza

Totalling over £3k so far this year. £1k on jars, £750 on wax then the rest with Thornes for frames, supers and other bits, plus maybe £200 for wood, glue and brads with other suppliers.

Too much as always. Just bought a Varrox to add to my tears....

This thread has cheered me up. Seems I'm not the only beek who spends way too much. I reckon my costs to be £1500 ish but I expanded from one hive to six - and have got so much spare kit that I need to build a massive storage shed to house it all... More expense!
I could have offset the costs a little with honey sales. But it's such nice honey I want it all for me. So I need to build a cupboard for my 150 lbs of honey too.... I did sell 3 jars though :hurray:
