I have read that ideally the hive should face south or south east.
Will the bees suffer if it faces north?
(The best position for the hives in my garden would be facing the row of trees which form the back boundary between us and the road behind. I think this site would be good as the bees would leave the garden at well above head height.....)

Ideally.

You have read and presumably taken all factors into consideration. So did I. Mine have thrived facing North since set up last year.

Do not think it matters, best if they get some sun though, if only to tell them to get up and out.

It doesn't seem to matter to my lot. Three face East, one North East. They get the sun all day and all seem to come out the same time.

Thanks for the reply. You have set my mind at reast. They will be in a spot where they get sun for as long as possible during the day, but the entrance will face N. They will be sheltered from the N wind by the hedge and fence.
