I understand no ventilation is required in crown board so I replaced porter hole board with bits of wood blocking the holes for a solid board. The roof space above is vented and floor is mesh I used 9 mm solid plyboard with 9mm bee space. There is no more ventilation required I understand is this correct?

Might be because I use Warre type quilt boxes but cant see how a board with or without holes with a roof sitting on it allows ventilation anyway.

is it winter already :)

Just been reading some Canadian and US books from the 1940s, 60s and 70s on the
"conservation of Energy" versus "replacement" overwintering debate.
unfortunately a lot of references are unobtainable here e.g. Gleanings from Bee Culture 1943.

However it does shed light over the pond on why they decided to use top vents and no insulation at all in temperatures as low as -30C. Just got to prove how they got wrong - no small task:)
