re-using jars for friends and family

I never re-use jars, too much hassle but see not reason if they are washed and sterilise correctly. I could never imagine trying to reuse 1000's of jars..

yeah at my hobby level its no drama ..and saves sticking jars in the recycling bin and buying more

Lady asked at the weekend if I re-used jars, so out comes the BBKA Elf'n'safety explanation as to why I don't

"But if I bring you 10 of your jars and their lids, will you refill them and just charge me for the honey ?" Win win, saves her 50p a jar and me the hassle

I suppose there's an outside chance she'll re-sell with her own labels, but I doubt there's enough margin for her unless she's getting London prices

Jars and bottles such as milk bottles that are designed specifically for reuse are made from a different type of glass.

..... but then he was selling his company product!

A shard of glass in your honey that had splintered off when reused would not sit comfortably with your product liability insurers!!

As long as you are giving the stuff away, not a problem. Do what you like. Selling and it starts to matter.
Although a large part of me cringes at "giving it away"

It depends on who is getting it .. i have had no complaints yet..

Funny that ... my family cringes when I try and sell it to them

For my own use and for family I do re-use jars, often with those simple white plastic lids. All go through a super-hot wash in the dishwasher before re-use.

Anything for sale, or for gifts, is new washed jars and lids.

Families and close friends get one new jar free. Any more and they have to pay for it..
(Must be my Scottish upbringing)
