Guys my original post has deviated but all very interesting to read.... just an update... hives have combined by eating way through newspaper. So I now have...
Floor then 14x12 brood box with very little brood but full of honey and nectar then part filled super then the std brood box with the queen and capped brood, eggs and lava.

When should I move brood box to bottom and should I go....

Std brood box
QE
Part super
14x12 box

Or super and 14x12 other way round?

Thanks simon

After a unite leave for one week before reopening the hive.

The super goes on top of the brood.

Will I need to check for queen cells every 3days or so.... will the queen less hive start to make queen cells with eggs from the queen right hive now they are combined?
