if you are going on holiday at swarm time, would it be doable to put queen excluder between floor and bottom of hive to prevent swarming, for the couple of weeks you are away , or is it not sensible to do

Easy way to suffocate the hive.

Not a good idea, put out a couple of bait hives, practise good husbandry and the bees should be fine.

PH

best not to ,the floor will be covered in dead drones

A Q excluder under the BC for a few days is fine but not for two weeks. It will get clogged with drones.

I suggest that you clip the queens wings and check the hive for queen cells before you go. If you don't find swarm queen cells then you should just about get away with it especially if you carry out a demarree. If you do find queen cells then do AS right away.

just been reading of swam control traps, brood box on bottom entrance closed, queen excluder on top then second brood box entrance open or supers ,allowing bees to go down to main body and also to upper chamber, now will the bottom brood box also fill up with dead drones as well will that set up cause any problems taken from web search

.
If there is a risk to swarm and you are not present for long time, make a false swarm and the case is closed then.

You may keep a queen in prison, but it hive wants to swarm, it stops honey production and brood production.

Here is an example:
i clipped the queens of my friend's apiary. the friend did not inspect the hives untill swarms come out with virgin queens.

The result was that hives had swarming fever 2 weeks and at same time there was next door glorious **** blooming and good weathers. She did not get much honey from that blooming.
