Well im still reading books like a eager beaver as much as i can until my attention span finally dies
( Haven't read much books for a while, kind of hard building up my attention span again
).
Apiguard is now on order and i may order a set of super frames and wax sheets in the next coming weeks just as precaution, dont want to chance one of the swarms not having enough room.
Was away for 10 days just got back today so i popped in to see how my little champs are doing, and i have to say its starting to look better now.
Hive 1 is the swarm i lured using pure lemongrass oils and when it arrived i had around 4-5 frames covered in bees, i was originally using all old comb and frames passed down from my grandad but i decided to slowely remove the empty non polished ones a couple at a time with a couple fresh ones. Was getting rather concerned at first as first couple weeks nothing was happening, but after todays inspection 2 of the new frames are drawn out to a nice size and it took me a while to adjust from looking in dark comb to fresh comb but there is LARGE masses of fresh eggs and some grubs/larvae in the middles at a older age.
Theres many more bees now and ALOT more activity outside the hive, so much pollen coming in
made me smile. Id say i have now got brood capped/grubs/eggs on around 5-6 frames with capped/stored honey in arches above the brood and it looks like 1 frame of just stored honey/pollen, i can remember when they moved in and i can see the expansions in size and laying and its only the beginning
.
Nuc 1 is the cast swarm which i was so happy to recieve and pick up a couple month's back, well many things have changed in this nuc but im still very concerned for its survival through winter as obviously its getting later into the season. They've now drawn out 2 full frames of wax and have little stores in and have lots of brood on, theyve started to draw out 1 side each on the 2 outer frames of the 2 fully drawn ones. Theres plenty of pollen stored and i did see fresh eggs being laided and grubs in different stages in there, my man concern at the moment is there progress rate and how much time they have left. There bee population has increased and the temperament as got alot better i managed to fully check the nuc today without continously being banged in the head by annoyed bees
, im just going to have to keep feeding these as much syrup as i can and pray for a miracle.
Both queen are there and active managed to spot them, bees didnt look deformed or anything from close look, and i saw a few capped brood with lids missing but they has nothing in there i do believe they were fresh bees escaped and out to stretch there legs.
Was 3 queen cups in hive 1 which i sliced sides off to check for eggs/grubs/white fluid and nothing so no panic there.
i do believe my grandad bringing me a commercial/national hive down which is a full hive of bees which a mate of his recently passed away so i hope to get them settled in the next 3 weeks or so and treated with apiguard also.
I have a couple of questions which i will post into main forums now.
