so

3 hives....last one certainly has some diarrhoea on landing board, roof and below landing board...some people seem to say it is nosema as soon as its sighted, others say it can be normal to look like his anyway an i' need to identify properly, which i dont yet know how to do....

any views and also welcome any observations on 2 and 3

all 3 were very active this afternoon - about 12 degrees

I might be wrong but my understanding is that of you see signs of it inside the hives, it may indicate nosema, but if it's just on the outside it may be because they've been confined for a while and 'going' as soon as they're out.

Will be interested to see what others say.

looks like a normal post confinement dump to me, they've probably be touching cloth for days, and just like woodcock, drop ballast on takeoff.
They seem to hang on for a hundred yards with me, and dump it on SWMBO's soft top. :D

Yeh ... mine always make it as far as the wife's car ... she's still convinced it's where she occasionally parks it under some trees ... I, of course, could neither confirm or deny who/what is the culprit for those little brown spots !

Looks normal to me also . It doesn't look that bad poop looks the right colour .
It can be alarming though . There is a nosema test you can do on a bee if your not to worried about pulling a bee apart .
I was worried last winter you could do dot to dot on one hive front, sides, roof , door step were covered.

No.

Quite yellow bees too.

You could take a sample and put the scope on it. A USB scope is now £15 btw.

ok...thanks folk

yes....entrance is restricted

should i be removing mouse guard now?

Mine will stay on untill there's forage going into the hives in good amounts pollen ( willow) .
Which is in march/April time .
My mouse guards can be slid out of the way to stop
Restriction , for cleansing flights and orientation flights, if I'm working from home.

v cool

i think i need to put my mind to such a mouse guard and i also like the wasp defence which i guess can all be combined into a smart and versatile entrance, will be seeking guidance when the weather improves and i put mind to it!

thanks jenkins... pm'd

Millet

i remember seeing the plastic cable channel slider entrance
...poor description...cant find it again on searching

Not mine..Pc issues of late and the only way i can post pictures is with my phone..so i am finding it hard work to search old post's..
