Hi all,

I ordered a Paynes overwintered nuc and due to the Coronavirus, i’ve yet to receive this. Paynes are currently arranging postage of the nucs to various customers however i’ve not received any emails or confirmation yet as to whether they will deliver mine, and when this will be.

I was wondering if anyone else is in the same situation?

Many thanks,

Andrew

It really depends upon the local weather as to when exactly the nucs will be ready. I collected an overwintered nuc last year from Paynes and that wasn't until 23rd or 24th April. I certainly wouldn't worry yet. I'm sure they're busily working out how they are going to get them all delivered.

I believe the nucs are ready, however the current situation means that it’s difficult to get the nucs out to those who have ordered as, understandably, they’ve stopped all collections. Paynes have started posting out nucs to those who are local, however i’m not sure whether Essex would be classed as local. I’ll sit tight and hope that my time comes soon.

I hope your bees are doing well. Were you happy with their quality? Roger from Paynes has always been very helpful.

Andrew.

Give Roger a ring .. he's a very straightforward, approachable bloke - 30 second phone call will get you the answer you need.

I've been extremely pleased with my bees. They shot off like a rocket as soon as I got them in a hive. It wasn't long before they were on double brood and I got a super full of honey plus more for the bees to keep (I was being extra cautious for my first winter). They are beautifully calm and came through winter well, already with 7 frames predominantly full of brood and a super being filled. Fingers crossed I'll have made an increase from them and have two full hives to go into this winter.

Roger was extremely helpful and the whole process of collection was run like a military operation. I can only imagine how much work they're having to do to ensure that everyone gets their bees safely, but as Pargyle says, I'm sure a quick call will put your mind at rest.

Thanks both for the encouraging words. I’ll give Roger a call next week and see how things are coming along.

Best wishes, Andrew

Let us know how you get on, and how your bees are when you get them. You should have an interesting summer ahead! ;-)
Thanks, i’ll keep you posted!

Roger contacted me yesterday evening and i should receive my bees in a few weeks time. Exciting times.

Ahhhh I am envious.
I remember the excitement I felt waiting for my first bees. I sat and watched them for hours when I got them and put a scope in the kitchen on them. Halcyon days.
