Hope so happy with the stock this one came from, apart from their calmness the jury is still out on the next batch from my original hive

First gen hopefully will be just as good, it sounds like you really like that stock

Never heard that before but I like the nomenclature of calling it crowning rather than marking. Sounds more regal.

It made more sense to my kids when they were younger that they were trying to find the one with a crown. Because that’s what queens have

I doubt @Markthebuilder was offended by anybody. Beginners can usually look after themselves. The captain can always be offended for them but the only reported posts in this thread was his, strangely.

So in effect a 2.5 frame nuc raising a queen not a good way to raise good queen's.
I would of got a mated queen in and feed them honey or syrup or both as a mix.

Also wondering your edging your bets with such a small nuc now?

Can you expand on why a 2.5 frame nuc won’t be able to raise a good queen and is this the same for a 3 frame mateing nucs . Ie is size only important until the QC is capped

Dont see why not, if the QC was sealed when the split was made the ' raising' was already done.
