Thanks Steve, I will listen to anyone. I have come to realise that I know 0.001% compared to most people on this forum. That was why I joined.
I will try and see if bruising the comb has helped. I guess time is needed. They have started drawing the super frames out. They might start to store it up there.
I just don’t want the laying to be restricted. This afternoon there were probably more bees flying about at the front of the hive than ever before so it must be getting stronger. I will give them a bit more time to settle.

Does your association have an extractor Mike.. it would be quicker if you could extract them and put them straight back into the hive.

I will check. I am due up there on saturday morning. Would extraction keep the built comb as opposed to changing them for new frames with Foundation?
Did you see my post on the Dummy Board thread? 2.5m of UPVC for Dummy Boards.

Yes and Yes Mike.. if you gently slowly extract the full brood frames and give them back to the bees it will save them having to draw a fresh foundation from scratch which means they will have it ready quicker if the Queen needs space to lay.. them UPVC dummy boards are spot on and easy to clean..

So Millet, when you extract brood frames, do you do them as a separate batch? If not, how do you prevent large quantities of trash from flying out of the combs?

I have only been extracting the ones that a full of honey and pollen, the pollen does not come out on extraction, what do you mean by trash because none of my hives have anything relating to rubbish in any of the frames..

I was thinking of what might happen if you put a frame of open brood in the extractor. But I think u answered that, tnx!

I don't think anyone would put a frame of open brood in an extractor, however I wouldn't be surprised if someone did.
What I can tell you is a lot of crap does come out when extracting Honey. Looks like a lot of loosely packed pollen pellets. Right 'orrible it looked. Honey is delicious though.
Now to get them back into the hives in a sort of rolling road works system....

p.s. I do like your new avatar....cat looks identical to ours....minus superman suit.

With the crazy year you are having, I suppose even a 5-hive owner would start thinking about efficient allocation of time and resources. It can get tricky.

Glad you like the new kitty... the other day I saw a gif of a Persian in a similar type of costume, on a pirate them. Hilarious. The costume made the cat walk exactly as if he was crossing a heaving deck... maybe with a peg leg!
