should i use resin to seal the ends or waterproof pva?
Ducksback to paint them or sadolin?

No intention of chucking water but have you taken dust reduction measures?

Looks good, and indoors too. What was the total cost of all the wood?
And what sizes sheet ply and wood was used?

New toy

That is an excellent toy. Those supers look good you will have soon save yourself the cost of the toy, what make is it

Steve

Total wood cost was 120 pounds just over 2 sheets of 18mm ply and enough soft wood to make 90 fillets for the boxes.

That made me 10 supers 10 brood boxes and 10 spare fillets. The sawmill near me shawfieldtimber cut all the ply and plained the fillets and cut them to 424x 26x44 with no charge just the cost of the wood i thought it would take them ages but the guy said it wouldnt take him 20 mins.

The table saw was £189 from b&q that did all the rebates and the angle cut on the bottom fillet.

Dont get what you mean poly hive? if you mean the health and safety of the dust off the saw then lets just say my wife whent ape **** as i did all this in the living room in my boxers that i woke up with. Glued and screwed after i had a shower

Very good price and you moved along to get that much done. :hurray:

Must say the boxers are an improvement on Y-Fronts in days of old! Someone we knew said her OH sanded and varnished his mast for a dinghy in the front room - went through the serving hatch from kitchen and rested nicely on the mantlepiece. :hurray:

Sets a precedent - OH doesn't agree.

Well done Mark, they look fine, water resistant PVA to seal the edges will be okay...and perhaps move your woodworking operation into a shed..lol.

Aye move to shed and invest in dust extraction. It can be lethal.

and I was told HWMBO that I was out of order wanting to paint two boxes in the kitchen...:boxing_smiley:

Second the point on dust extraction - it can really destroy your lungs if you are breathing wood dust on a regular basis. On all my old kit (with pretty flaky extraction ports) I always wear a decent dust mask. The new kit does not leak dust, and I could happily make all those boxes the living room with no sweep up required.

That said, nice boxes. I make mine in ply as well, and one you get everything set up, you can really knock them out.

Best what you can do is your DIY frames. Huge savings.

Many frame models are absolutely too complex. They are not neened.

This is the most simple wayhttp://2.bp.blogspot.com/_vtYcXfggQbA/SPwz2FXXDmI/AAAAAAAAB-Q/Vc5T3FbigtQ/s1600/honeycomb_frames.JPG

Second type. Look the upper wood.

In migrative beekeeping simple joints brake down and make many kind of nuisances.
