Had a look at one this morning - it's a langstroth nuc that has inserts to make it fit national frames. The feeder has a roof access to refill which could be an issue in wasp season.

I had a good play with it at the show, nice and dense, will need a hive tool to open the sections as it snug. I liked it. I ordered one.

Completely missed it at the show. Wonder whether as it's white polystyrene I ignored it as being cheap and flimsy.

I had a look. I got the same impression re flimsiness but was assured it was 120g the same as others on the market.

It felt rather robust, I tried reasonably hard to get a finger nail into it. But couldn’t. I’ll report back when it arrives, apparently they are stuck at a port somewhere otherwise they would have been on sale at the show.

I wonder where they are being made then ?

Probably Poland or similar as most are.
Listened to a talk by BS Honey Bees yesterday who said there were no factories in the uk capable of that type of work anymore.

Same as the Park, on the market about twenty-five years ago. Godfrey will be fuming (or laughing). The Park mould was funded in a joint enterprise with a Portugese beekeeping supplier which made and exported the boxes to Blackheath, long before Brexit made long-distance business awkward.

A few years ago BS told me that there was only one poly company willing to make the Maisemore & BS nucs and they would raise prices whenever they wanted, as the poly nuc share of the factory ouput was minor; I got the impression that the factory thought the polynuc business was a nuisance. Lucky that we have enterprising European neighbours, yet again filling the market we cannot or will not supply, although thanks to the stupidity of Brexit, at a far higher import cost.

lament on the mushrooming fragmentation of the polynuc offerings
Precisely.

Thornes existing 6 frame polynuc is made by Stehr in Germany.
BS honeybees are highlighting that there nuc is UK made and not a Chinese copy, which may be relevant.

I thought the maisemore offerings(my favourite) were made in the uk

Yes, BS and Maisemore used to be made made in the same UK factory (even shared the same basic box size) but which of those statements are now correct?

BS stated yesterday that the factory that was due to produce their full size hive went bust before they could produce any and that was the only UK one that could do it.
