Evening, I'm new to bee keeping, joined the forum ages ago as its been something I've wanted to do for a while. I think I have now found the space, I just need to move forward in sourcing bees and equipment. I've not done a course yet, the last was fully booked when I enquired. I'm keen to get in contact with anyone in the local Ramsbottom/Bury/Rossendale area if you are willing to help.

Looks like Oldham & Dustrict British Beekeepers Association is you nearest, otherwise try Manchester.
Go to their websites a check out when there next meeting is and go along and introduce yourself. They should be having Apiary meetings at this time of year.
However tempting it is, I would recommend learning the basics of beekeeping either through a course or with a local mentor before getting any bees if your own.

Hi Craynwrd!

Welcome to the madhouse!

Manchester BKA meets at their apiary at the Dower House in Heaton Park - technically in Bury, I think.

We have teaching sessions every Monday evening (in the season) for people who have done the course. Or you could wander in Thursday, middle of the day, to meet the apiary manager and the team which does routine maintenance.

We're a friendly bunch.

Shouldn't think it will be long before you are Pm'ed with offers to part with your money. Source carefully and don't get ripped off. Ask around. get a mentor from your local club THEN start to spend wisely!

I'm still awaiting the PMs of offers and sourcing bees in now the issue. I have just posted off the membership to Manchester district bee keeping association. I've also been kindly contacted by a local from these boards who has put me in touch with a few people in the same village... Hopefully I'll get a reply back from them.
