Good Morning One and All

Im Peter and have no bees!
I have a nuc on order and Im awaiting delivery of my shiny new hive.
I have bought and read SSSOOOOO many bee keeping books.
I have trawled through many many posts here on this wonderful forum.
Now surely...... I'm an expert??

But just in case......
I may be coming back with a bemused look and several questions!
So if you see my username next to a really dumb post, I apologize now and promise I will look and see if the question has been asked before.

Now where do I get really tiny glasses for my girls when they arrive so they can read these books too.

Take care everyone and you WILL be hearing from me soon.

Peter

Haha lovely first post:rofl:.

Welcome to the forum, you've definately come to the right place;)

One of the first things you will learn is- they never read the right books! :banghead:

But it keeps life interesting! ;)

Welcome

Have you done a course or contacted your local association. Both could prove invaluable as you begin your journey.

Enjoy!!!

The only stupid question is the one you do not ask.

Bees are the best teachers!

EX... has been
SPURT.... load of drips going on steadily

You will find a whole grist of Experts at your local BBKA beekeepering club!

Good Luck

Now back to my skep making[!!/I]

Hi peter,

welcome aboard :hurray:

Who have you ordered your first Nuc of Bees from may i ask?

Hi Camperman, welcome to the forum :)

Hi there. The best thing for you to do is find a mentor, maybe at an association or a course...or both!.

Last summer was my first season beekeeping, although in theory beekeeping is very straightforward, in reality you get lots of unexpected problems thrown at you that only experienced beekeepers can help you with. I myself have had help from a more experienced beekeeper that helped put me on the right track many a time.

One of the most difficult things in beekeeping is the swarming season, it is so hard to judge for the beginner. I am dreading that season again as I lost around 3 swarms from 1 hive last year (I think they may have been a little prone as they seemed to have plenty of room with undrawn frames). Now I know to seek more help when that time comes. Beginners should never try and go it alone!

You must be an expert!! You haven't got them yet - but you know they need glasses - Well Done!!;)

Beware of bee experts. They are worse than economists.

Put 5 beekeeping experts in a room and ask a question. You will get 11 replies, all different and 9 will be wrong. And ten minutes later you will get another 10 differing replies - all wrong ..:)

And do NOT under any circumstances follow any advice in the BBKA magazine if you decide to join.. 99% of the time it is incorrect.

Welcome Peter, this forum is fab, full of lots of lovely people with a huge amount of experiance. Some can seem a little blunt at times, but they all have the bees best interest at heart so try not to be offended.

Enjoy.

:)

Sweetie...:seeya: you will get used to the BBKA bashing ... it is the ONLY fun us beekeeperers have ... until the SWARMING SEASON !!!

Yo!
Seek advice. And have spare equipment. Bees won't wait for you!

Thank You all so much for your kind words.

I look forward to being able to join with the BBKA bashing, but it might have to wait until I know wheather the legs on my newly arrived stand should be facing up or down!! ;)

I have ordered my nuc from bluebell hill apiaries who are just up the road from me.
The first time I popped in there (just to look around and try to gather more info) the guy in there made no attempt what so ever to sell me a single thing! He was so friendly and helpful, he gave me magazines and catalogues (not just his!!) with no pressure...... I left stunned.

As I said earlier, I have no bees yet, and I'm slowly buying kit, but I am really enjoying gathering info and knowledge.

Thank you all for making me feel so welcome

Peter

Hi Camperman, welcome aboard, don't listen to Icanhopit, we have lots of other fun including the message-board equivalent of ringing the doorbell and running away - having a quick poke at each other to get a reaction - mostly done with a smile and a wink;)
As well as mini glasses you may need little gas masks for the bees, my bee-buddy is vegetarian and they don't mind her breathing on them, they don't like my carnivore breath at all and I've had to learn to do inspections with my mouth shut. (Ok I should extend that . . . .)
Partner assures me that my breath doesn't smell but they obviously disagree!

If you are covered with bees being able to remove them just by breathing on them is a virtue in my world...:seeya:
