I’m in West Sussex and the queen in my one and only hive has stopped laying and I don’t know why. I’m hoping she will start again soon. However, as there is no brood at all, is there any reason why I shouldn’t administer my oxalic vaporisation treatment?

Queens often go off-lay in late summer but will return to work when nectar comes in: ivy or HB.

If that is not the case, feed syrup and check for BIAS a week later, because the colony will need brood now to produce winter bees.

If your treatment is pungent then try something different, because Apiguard or ApiLife Var can put queens off-lay. Chemical strips such as Apivar, or sublimated oxalic acid will not affect laying.

Is the colony strong and is the brood box full of bees?

Feed them with wet feed , if lacking forage incoming then laying slows or stops.
As for treating yes hit them now with OA whilst broodless.
