I know the normal 3ft or 3miles for moving hives move 3miles for 3 weeks then move back but presumably this can only be done in the summer due to the activity?

So basically I've got 3 to move they are going opposite side of the house so I can use the veg patch again and to get more sun also closer to the other one hive.

Now I'd imagine I can't move them 3 miles for 3 weeks at this time of year as they will soon be going into winter, so what would the best method be here?

As ideally I'd like to get this achieved Before next spring

Thanks

I moved mine twenty five yards last winter. Moved them when there was no flying for two weeks due to weather.on warm days when you think they may fly you can close them in with mesh floor for ventilation. When they flew after three weeks some returned to original site but by sundown they had gone, presumably to their hives!
Try and turn the hives to a different orientation too as that helps them to reorientate.it worked for me

If you have the option no reason why you can’t move them away for a week or even 3 if you really wish. It will in no way what so ever effect the bees winter prep.

Yes I moved 2 hives about 40ft a few winters ago. I just chose a time when they were not going to be flying for a while due to the cold weather. I covered the entrances just to be sure and removed it a day after the move. It all went fine. Incidentally they were facing a different way although that wasn't deliberate and I don't know whether it helped.

Ditto... sometimes only 2-3 meters

wait for a long cold period - either move them during or towards the end of it (as longs as the bees are cooped in and not flying for a week or more, it matters not) if you arre unsure whether the period is long enough, shut them in for a further few days, it doesn't matter in the winter, they're not going to cook
