Moving a WBC

Hello
I need to move a split into a WBC and so need to move it over to an out apiary and back again a while later.
Would it be easier to make a temporary floor and roof for this job rather than taking the whole hive which will not strap up easily?

WBC uses National frames.
Easier surely to put the colony in a different box (national nuc?) for their holiday, or at least for the move(s) ...

Yes you can make a floor but will need a travel screen on top if the floor is solid. I've done it but it's a right faff. Itma's suggestion is probably the best bet - you could borrow a national for a few days whilst you do the transfers. Make sure that the out apiary is secure - I suspect WBCs are more attractive to thieves as they are expensive to buy and make good garden ornaments.

Exactly what happened when I bought mine - they were transported in Nationals and transferred to WBC's afterwards

You could transfer them into another hive for the journey...

But if you remove the lifts, block the entrance and either fit a travel screen on top or ensure the crown board has no holes in it, strap it up and away you go. Any gaps between the boxes can be taped.

Moved four hives like this for a friend a few weeks ago, didn't encounter any problems, providing you take it steady it should be ok.
