I would have to check to be absolutely sure, but I think 6 frames. There are two frames that they haven't done much with and then the rest are full of capped honey/nectar/pollen.

.

have noticed you mention capped honey a lot, but not so much mention of the important stuff like brood, larvae and eggs

Chris B that's not fair (to the bees): everyone's swarming this year.

I've had 2 out of over 100 new season queens try to swarm on me. If we were talking about older queens I would agree with you. But even my old girls haven't been swarming without leaving a bit of a crop behind.

That's a persuasive statistic. But remember you are a v experienced beek while the OP, with all due respect, is not. This sounds (a lot) like a Buckfast nuc from Paynes, the same place I got mine from. I don't have the experience to be definitive, but it should not be a swarmy strain relatively speaking.

I have just been to have another look. There are 5 frames of sealed brood but no eggs or larvae. There was one larvae in a queen cup which I took away along with 5 sealed queen cells.

I have left one queen cell there. A photo is attached.

I think they have swarmed, there are still the majority of bees there, but define toy fewer than before. Lesson learned!!!

I definitely need to find a mentor in Newbury!!

It looks as if you left a capped queen cell almost ready to emerge, but destroyed an open one. Hopefully you will have prevented after swarms.
:iagree:

Good luck, beginning beekeeping is a steep learning curve :)

I hope so!! It is a learning curve and a half!!!
