Hi there,

I finally got round to looking into my two hives this weekend after being away etc.
I found that due to not have full supers on the top of each hive, the little blighters have of course built themselves a wonderful comb castle in the space.

My question is should I remove this and replace with frames, or just tidy it up and place frames along side it reducing the space as much as possible?

The populations look very healthy and of course I dont want to upset this.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

If you want to extract honey then get the mess out and put proper frames in! Why did you leave spaces?

Remove the mess, crush and strain. Does the space consist of too few super frames, no frames at all, just shallow box or space above the feed holes between crownboard and roof?

Just two few frames, where I had feeders in for the winter.
I of course had planned to add them, i'm still quite new to this and learning as I go.

...too easy.
IF not already fitted in the stack throw a QX on and place another super above.
Transfer frames to the super, filling space with interleaved drawn comb.
Place "mega comb" super above.
Close up.
Bees will move the stores in the comb down allowing you to simply remove
when mined out.
