Massive Wasp

Never seen a wasp this size before. See pic, it covers the palm of my hand! Massive legs over 2 inches long...any ideas what it is? (Its not an Asian Hornet!)

The wood wasp has yellow legs similar to the Asian hornet can see the poor bugger being persecuted and causing panic as people will see it's yellow legs and think AH.

Looks like a european hornet queen they are about 2inches long.

I'm 99.9% certain it is a European Hornet, the head is a dead give away.

We've had about 3 of these a day popping in through the window before leaving again. The noise resembles that scene from Apocalypse Now.

Quite a rarity this far North. I've not seen hornets for years now.
