OK. So I went into winter with six marked queens. Yesterday I managed to see all of them for the first time this year. No sign of any marking what so ever? So I've either had a mass supercedure or the little blighters have cleaned the pen off over winter. I use to same pens as supplier by a certain shop at Rand.

If it's a Posco pen then a few have reported problems with the longevity of the white marker from last year. May have worn off, the couple I marked certainly did. R

I think most of the water based ones wear off over the winter to some extent, last year was white and tipex is excellent, cheap and it seems to last, this year ??????? I have paint markers coming from a specialist as I keep getting asked the question, the old humbrol enamel never wore of but took an age to dry.

:iagree:

Humbrol paint and a matchstick works.

Has anyone tried adding yellow food die to tippex ? or just use white and put a yellow drawing pin on the hive as a reference to year of queen

must admit the couple of white ones i had had worn most off over winter.

now all remarked with nice bright pink - much easier to see.

did all mine last year with a posca pen and seen them all this year still marked but a little faded

There was the same comment the previous year over the blue. Somewhere in a recent BBKA news the pens were described as good for a month....

Seriously, a tin of Humbrol paint is about £1.20, they do them in the correct colours, and one tin will last you all season
