Never had it happen before marked a new queen that has laid up a few frames and she flew off. I stood there gob smacked. Well back to square one with this hive. I would be really suprised if she makes it back.

Should of clipped her wing at the same time Craig, stop her little games.

All I can do now is wait until next week and see if there are queen cells in there or if she has found her way back.

Had the same happen to me around four weeks ago marked a queen was going for the scissors to clip her and of she went
Inspected seven days later QS done a split and got two nucs from it
leason learnt weep a tight hold of her

I bungled a the transfer of one of last year's Qs which had been superceded earlier this year from a mating nuc to a 5-frame National nuc. After the swearing had stopped, I reminded myself that she was unlikely to go far and to mind where I trod.

A few minutes later and the blue dot was climbing up the roof slates towards the apex and secured, hissing and spitting, by a very relieved beekeeper.

A lucky escape for me, and, I hope, a productive incarceration for the Queen !

She'll return.

Had the same thing happen to a marked queen I wanted to remove from a hive, each time I spotted her on the frame she would stop moving as if waiting to she what I was about to do. As soon as I removed one hand off the lug she flew away...

psychic?.....maybe

But she returned back to the hive and continued to lay nicely.
A few months later I found supersedure cells and never saw her again.

Have you got any other hives close by?

Had to chase an II'ed queen around the garden the other day, luckily she was clipped and flying in circles.

Think she was very determined to take the chance to find out what flying was like.

Well checked the hive today and the queen has returned from her little trip. Phew.
