Hi All. It's a big ask but I am looking for some long straw so I can build my own skep. Does anyone know where I can get some? I am in West Sussex.

From the person who DIDN'T get the short straw? Sorry. I'll get my coat.

Simplest is to ask a farmer with some uncut straw and ask him can you take away a bit of it that you will be able to save yourself. Failing that look along the hardshoulder of large roads and simply cut your own hay - I know it is not straw but give it a go if all else fails. Hope this helps

Thatcher - expect to pay £10 for a bushel (is that the correct term?) More than enough

A lot of farmers choose to grow short stalked varieties to ease weather damage and minimise handling/ploughing in. Maybe you can find one who grows a longstalk variety if you ask around.
