Hive Type
14x12
Number of Hives
50+. Double Std National & 14x12
Took some of my hives out to their summer sites a couple of weeks back.
First and second pictures is 2 std nationals at a local company who pay to have them on site as part of their CSR image and environmental committment.
Just through the tree line is acres of OSR which has now just come into flower.
Third picture is 4 x 14x12 hives at a wildflower seed farm, the yellow just over the hedge is one of three fields of cowslip currently in flower.

Both of them contacted my local association who put them on to me as I live in the area. I suggested charging to cover my expenses etc, most firms pay for pot plants in reception so why not bee hives ! Both readily agreed and would like to buy all (any) the honey from the hives @ £4 a lb

At £4/lb they are getting a bargain if the costs associated with small scale production are similar to here and particularly in seasons of reduced productivity. An article in the current edition of An Beacaire goes through the detail and arrives at a figure of 12.50(euro)/500g to cover costs and make a reasonable profit. The author says a little extra explanation of the costs and unique qualities of the product is required but his sales have not been affected.

Ask the council if you can use that bit of land earmarked for the incinerator, I recon you're next door to it anyway there.

I am about 8 miles from it, my hives between 4 and 12 miles away.

This is a negiotiated lower price due to the fact that they pay weekly rent for the hives and the cost covers my time, the jars and fuel etc.
Locally you can buy a 1lb jar of local honey for as little as £3.50, (£3.20 last year).
Best price I get is £4 for 12oz hex. Except at shows when it sells for £5.

I would put up photos of the apiary sites I've acquired, but I don't want SWMBO finding out where they are :D

Its OK, Emyr she wouldnt get by security at these sites..........:nono:.......

Risk assessments, method statements, photo id, parking permits :rules:

except the farm of course............ shotgun and 2 big doggies !
