Is it not similar to the pheromone produced by the Nasanov gland?

One of the components is chemically very similar to (so smells to the bees rather like) a queen pheromone.

But you need the right type of "lemongrass". Cymbopogon Citratus.

What is it that attracts bees to lemongrass oil

After a hard day's foraging, bees like a good rub down with rejuvenating, psychic awareness-enhancing, auric field-protecting, nervous exhaustion-relieving smelly overpriced aromatherapy oil.

Just like the rest of us.

I couldnt get any lemongrass oil - so got an actual stick of the stuff, bashed it a bit to release the smell and put it in my bait hive - an hour later it was completely covered in bees

Thanks for the replies my next question is how far will the scent travel

That depends more on who is doing the sniffing!

Try Holland & Barratt for the oil (and make sure it isn't citronella that they offer you!)

A long way .... I can smell my bait hive at least 20 ' away and further if the wind is in the right direction ... bearing in mind that humans can only detect smells in the order of 300 ppm whereas bees can detect down to less than 3ppm. Probably miles away if you happened to be a bee.

Thanks all, I got a bottle from Holland & Barrett but it didn't say what lemongrass it was but that was the only one they do so put a few drops on the top bars and a few on the entrance so now living in hope
