Have just with the help of my local advisor done my first AS so feeling pleased and must wait for new queen to develope and emerge. I have been told that a if I use a light sprinkling of icing sugar on my bees that this encourages grooming, and lessens the risk of varroa infestation. Does anyone have experience of this is this myth?

Not regarded as particularly effective against varroa. Which part are you considering 'dusting' and when?

I have removed all the bees at home and actually rolled them in icing sugar - a fairly complete coating - and then run them back into the hive. Important there is no capped brood at the time, and culling the first capped brood will mop up the rest of the varroa.

Probably not for you, but much more effective than dusting.
