That is often the problem – they are not given time to work up a story properly. But build good contacts and know your beat and you can get to the truth (or something like it) quite quickly. It's the investigative stuff that really takes time.

Sensationalised stories sell and make money the mundane truth does not. Myself and two collogues where told by a local coroner that we went above and beyond the call of duty. Local paper which I have not bought since stated mental health system fail patient again. How many times have I seen that dribble printed? Journo not worth a toss. Phone hacking that’s my last word.
