Hi all
am i right in saying that a heather press is needed to extract heather honey? i have a manual 9 frame extractor - dont suppose this could be used? also am i right in assuming if a press is used i will need wireless foundation?

any advice gratefully received!

Yes no wire in foundation for press.

It can be extracted "normally" in a tangenital extractor but not in a radial.
(You may be able to fit tangenital screens to you 9 framer.)

Most beeks sell the heather as cut comb.

Options for heather:

1. Cut comb. Use starter strips or thin unwired foundation.

2. Pressed. As above.

3. Spin drier i.e. high speed spinning of mashed up comb. You can do a DIY job or buy an expensive cappings spinner. It might be some regular extractors can accomodate a special cage and spin at high speed. Use starter strips or unwired foundation.

4. Regular extraction. This is possible with a heather loosener which you apply before putting combs into extractor. And you still need to spin as fast as the frames will allow. Hence you need the strongest comb you can get. Thick wired foundation. One piece plastic frames would probably be good too.
