Had to share this taken in the Taurus Mountains in Turkey
I have relations in Turkey :)
Some one over there must have an awful lot of blue paint ,it's used to excess by Turkish beekeepers :)
The Turkish bee (Apis anatolia) has a reputation for being more tolerant of Varroa than most honeybees . So I'm informed :)

:)What a beautiful sight!
but one thing's bothering me: what on earth do they forage on?! It looks a bit sparse, and very dry... is there some nice woodland nearby, or a field of sunflowers?

So anyone worrying about close quartering of hives can see there's no probems.
I think they forage on wild thyme and mountain herbs/flowers.

So that's where all the boxes ended up after the Croydon Clarks shoe shop was looted!

they do extract on site because I've seen them do it, I did this myself, i bought a small generator & gazzebo & extracted my entire crop on site returning the supers to each hive they come from. i got over 2 tonnes of honey off and only use 3/4 gallon of petrol in the generator. I saw them doing with a manual extractor though.

He looks so at peace with the world, doesn't he
Would that my beekeeping gave me the same contentment rather than the minor battle it seems at times.

I find the idea of extracting on site quite fascinating because if I so much as make a small stack of supers in an apiary even with ply covers I have large numbers of bees all over them within 30 minutes. Likewise if I put an extractor out after spinning it is heaving in the same timespan....

....so my question is, how do you do it?

BTW. Great photo and thanks for posting it.

Chris

this time of year it's all most impossible to do extracting outside because of the excitement it causes & robbing of course, but in the spring you can do it outside no bother, I use a gazebo which has netting, I've got some photos which I'll scan & try & put on here later on, as I'm too busy extracting now. regards Jean
