so what does it do?
Apart from empty your bank account of your hard earned?
Looks like it just monitors temperature, humidity and whether the hive has been moved. For hobbyists it relies on a WiFi connection. The "professional" version for hobbyists and commercials, will work on solar power and mobile network.

so nothing much of any practical use - apart from (maybe) telling you if the hive has been stolen, probably well after the event.

.£30 a hive is not prohibitive.
The thing I'm not understanding is what you do with the information you get.

"Your hive is now at 32c" reads one of the example messages.
Ok. So, what now? Its 2pm on a week day. I'm at work, in a Teams meeting. What do I care about the temperature of one of my hives?
If the temperature drops to ambient levels, I know the colony's gone/dead. But I'd have seen that anyway, upon inspection.

Knowing someone is moving your hives is important, but there are likely cheaper products that provide that service.

I'm lost as to the reason for these kind of hive monitoring products/services.
