It would be easier to make stands in pairs. I think if you are going to make them that size then add more legs to it. There is no set distance between hives, whatever suits you really.

I have hive stands that take 2 hives. The hives are six inches apart. If you put more on a stand you can only inspect them from the back! If you have two hives you can inspect from at least one side which is much more convenient. Try it with three hives near each other, how would you inspect the middle one......with difficulty I suspect!

My pleasure, sometimes it is easy to miss the obvious.....I'm always doing it!

No problem at all if you run them warm way and possibly more convenient if space is an issue.

My choice is a 3 hive stand but with only 2 on it.
The gap in the middle gives space to put the roof etc. when inspecting without too much back ache.
OK if you have the space I suppose.

I would have a three hive stand with one hive in the middle so there is plenty of room to AS either side.
Having said that I have one long stand with three hives on it and a similar amount of room between them.

Words of a wise man..... I often wish I had made them big enough for three hives with one in the middle, it would make A.S. so easy.....but like you I made two hive stands intending to put one hive on and now they have two on!

I've just set up a 14ft stand and it currently has 4 hives on it. Plenty of space between for boxes and hands ... at the moment.

That's a BIG one Swarm any pics as I might be needing something that size shortly

Here's mine
25 feet long made out of pallets for the top and fence posts sunk well into the ground. Immoveable!!
Excuse the quality of the pictures but you can get an idea.

Good to have plenty of room on a stand, to pop that nuc or two temporarily.

I like to use the roof of the hive next door to stack stuff and save me having to lift unnecessarily from the floor, so strap buckles to the side.

Unfortunately any spare space will inevitably become utilised . . .
