bought a nuc last year from pa**es and did very well with 3 full supers

ended up with 3 supersedure attempts in sept whcih i knocked back (probably shouldnt)

the BIA was on 3 frames 2.5 weeks ago but now only on 2 and numbers slightly down although still on 6 seams of bees

however, noticed this today and dug out a larvae with hive tool and it had varroa mites visible

is this a varroa problem which i should treat now?

Yes I would(treat now), looks like they've a problem to me.

Possibly too late? Temperature dependant methods need correct temps over the period of treatment in order to be effective.

I think I’d be tempted to use a dose of MAQS - kill or cure!
A kinder solution might be a treatment of vaping with oxalic.

My rhubarb in the pollytunnel is busting forth with nice juicy leaves,

Vape from the top with OA... 5 day intervals 3 times in succession?

Chons da

Already picking ours from the outside! Asparagus just starting to show too!

yup

they were bringing in HB and ivy and was in two minds but went ahead with treatment regardless

i think the queen is failing, they tried to supercede her 3 times in autumn also and i prevented (prob an error)

the other two colonies treated at same time are fine

i think there is some varroa in this colony but exacerbated by the weakening brood nest

Used Apiguard in autumn on 2 of mine and come December they were dropping hundreds of varroa, it obviously hadn’t worked. Ended up doing a series of vapes

Apiguard.... did you read the instructions and pull the foil cover off the little packet of ... pricey thymol???

LOL. Would have had no worse effect if I’d have left the foil cover on. I put it down to being large hives on double brood but who knows. Only I know I will vape again this season
