Not a newby. not got any gear yet....

I don’t want to buy stuff I don’t need or is useless, but I really want to keep bees....

I have started to read some stuff but what do I need to do as a minimum... what gear do I need as a minimum.

Also does anyone have any bits to help a newbee out.... from your upgrades etc.

I live in Merseyside are there any shops, farms or places that are trusted and are in Merseyside...that you know.

Tx James,,,

Why don't you sign up with your local beekeeping club and take the beginners class throughout the winter with a view of buying bees next spring and have your questions answered? You can also use their apiary, see what it's like to handle bees and decide if it's for you?

Jeff's spot on
Use the winter to get a good grounding

Don't go in to it without getting a little practical experience. Hundreds of stinggy things flying round your head can be quite daunting and may not be the sport for you!
But welcome and good luck

Read as much as you can.
Lots of UK based UTube videos.. Ignore US based ones until you know something - their climate and methods are VERY different.

Some knowledge of plants and trees helps.

And as above: you MUST get practical experience before spending money. Bees in quantity all upset can be quite daunting - even to seasoned beekeepers.!

To be fair I would also keep away from watching the majority of UK based Utube videos, nearly as bad as watching love island!!

Do you mean bees are stuffed with steroids, have implants ,excrement for brains and an overwhelming sense of their own importance? :paparazzi:

(I only watched Love Island for 5 minutes.. it exceeded my prejudices)

I 'tried' to watch it because so many people in work were watching it and going on about it. I think I lasted about as long as you. A truly terrible programme - friendly warning - don't bother with naked attraction either!

:icon_204-2:and I would promote shook swarm as the best method of dealing with them!

Beware of you tube beekeeping videos. Some are good but some are total tripe!
