Whilst it's obviously a crappy thing to happen . I'd question "thoughtless " im sure it's not widely known that you have exclusive rights to the Tamar valley and if it was known then as a conscious act it's still not "thoughtless ".
So a seasons queens are junked, how does that trash the work already done ?

Much better to use II than to rely on open mating. No matter how isolated you think you are, there's always beekeepers you don't know about.

It doesn't stop them from being used as drone mothers/ production colonies.

Manage to get 8 Artificial trees occupied by reasonably strong colonies, and saw the queens go into most of them.
