A big hive has the capacity to cast swarm and every time it does you lose more bees
 
Oh and further to what I said before, when going in around a week later to knock down the emergency queen cells they can be *very* well hidden. As emergency cells are drawn out from regular cells they don't stand out as much - it can be helpful to shake the bees off each frame as you go to get a better look, but *don't* shake the frame with your chosen queen cell, just try and inspect it as best you can for other queen cells without shaking it.
 
It’s a good idea to shake bees off the comb( you don’t have to dislodge every bee) when looking for ANY queen cells while protecting any you want to keep of course.
