Whats the difference in foundation terms ,between Jumbo and ordinary apart from the obvious please .Just reading about jumbo national and never realised there was different sized national hives ..........puzzled,i am ready to be enlightened .

Eric, some people call the 14x12 a jumbo national.
It is just the same as a national, except for the brood box depth.
 
The theory is that nationals are a bit too small....brood and a half is fidly so they made bigger nationals by elongating the bottom of the brood so that there was 'the correct' amount of room for a queen to lay. The supers and rest of the equipment still fits. If you are just starting, go for the bigger brood as long as you are strong enough to lift them when full!
