Hi Phill,
May i ask where you read this pearl of wisdom about putting smoke into the entrance or under the open mesh floor? It does NOT drive the bees up if the correct procedure is carried out, gentle puffs not poofs of smoke is used not belching great clouds of smoke as i have seen some wallys use. But if you want to try the top end for smoking then please do so and hopefully you will find what suits you. Good luck with your beekeeping its a fantastic hobby.
