Hi there....I used to live in Oman...we had mainly two types of ants. Really tiny ones which used to get into the house and formed trails. Also outside big black ants ...about 1-2 cm long...boy did they bite! And the bite itched for weeks too. What kind of ants are getting into your hive? They will be after the sweet honey. I think you will find the water in your ant traps will evaporate very quickly. The ants will come for the water too.You could use olive oil and sprinkle cinnamon powder around the oil tins, on the ground. Good luck for the summer. Some people use sheets over the hive which they wet with water to evaporate...it cools the hive too....during the day.

Thanks Tremyfro

I have the small ones in the hive.
The big ones are also available in the UAE and yes, their bite is for days. Worse than fire ants. Cinnamon doesnt work here. Ants seems to like it
I have put rather large containers with water.
Hope evaporation will be OK
Saw a trick with cutting plastic funnels and putting upside down over the water containers but wait to see evaporation rate of my tins.

For summer, yes I am worried. Although in the shadow, it will still be 40 degrees plus.
(celcius)

I have also a nest of local small bees in a pommegranade bush very close to the hive. At least with the hive our facilities team dont destroy the local bees any longer.

Cheers
