For a number of years I have been working with a school in Oaxaca, Mexico. My first GoFundMe raised a good amount that went to the beekeeping students at two schools with full suits, smoker, hive tool, hive and bees. Rather than give the funds to the school, it went to the students. Señor Javier Martinez Pedro is brilliant. He knew where to send the funds where they would help the most.
Yesterday, the school apiary was set ablaze. How and why I don't know. But, all is lost. So sad. Such a disaster.
Plans are underway to rebuild the apiary, of course.
As my friends in Mexico say..."Soy Fuerte, Soy Apicultor"
Just posting this to remind everyone what a hazard a bee smoker can become...in the right conditions.

The plot sickens. A teacher at the school was supposed to be managing the apiary. Javier…veterinarian and excellent bee keeper…asked to visit the school and check on the bees and equipment. Two days before Javier was to visit, the apiary burned. Very suspicious. Local beekeepers are stepping up and donating bees and equipment. Javier, Jesus, and Serafin will establish the new apiary off school grounds. While this tragedy has been difficult for those of us trying to help the students, the Phoenix is rising.
If you would like to help the students, see the GoFundMe I started in January.
