Hi there I have seen people feeding water to there bee’s in feeders but is this sugar water or are they giving the bees plain water aswell? Bit of a basic question. Thanks

This time of year... for winter feeding the mix is 2 parts sugar ( By weight) to one part water ( by weight)
called 2 to 1 or thick mix

ie 2 kilo of best white granulated sugar to one kilo ( 1 liter) water

1 kilo of fresh water weighs 1 kilo)

Spring feed is 1 kilo of sugar to 680ml water ( called thin mix)

Beef will be along in a moment to disagree... probably!!!

They will be on about sugar syrup now tho

Of course....and good to see you :troll:ing for a response again.
Very hard to get those quantities 2:1 dissolved. Usual quoted figures are for 61.5% sugar to water, i.e 2kg sugar in 1.25 liters of water...but what the eff.
You do what you want....
If we are reduced to the great sugar mixing debate all is wrong.

Just tell me.... do you really manage to get 2kg of sugar dissolved in 1 liter of water easily?

I've found that mixing 2:1 isn't too difficult - as long as you keep the temp of the water high ... but not boiling.
On the stove in the wifes largest boiling pan is best!

Ahh..... but your time comes into it when you have lots of hives. I've just done over 200ks of sugar so far....(yes small beer compared to the pros) but standing by a hob waiting for it all to dissolve to EXACTLY 2:1...well I'll leave that time-consuming exercise to others.
As I said earlier "easier".

You still have a wife?!! I buy inverted syrup via my association @60p/kg - slightly more expensive than sugar but covered by honey profits
