In the classic phrase from management training- 'Assume makes an ass out of U and me'. Do you have any evidence for it? I've never come across any evidence that they overwinter any worse on sugar.

well if theres no evidence that honey is better for the bees than sugar then the reverse must also be true.

all bee colonies probably carry nosema spores.

I still get inoculations against Yellow Fever and take malaria pills... not likely to get either of them in the Tamar Valley... but in Africa?
