My wife has bought me some square pieces of foam like insulation from a bee supplier for my bees not knowing that I have already put 50mm kingspan in all the roofs..... is it worth putting these on top of the crown boards or is it not required???

Just a thought: if your bees are so delicate that they need all that extra insulation, how "fit" are they for survival?

You could stick it permanently up inside the roof. The bees won't have to work as hard at cooling in summer when sun is on the roof. Then in winter just add the extra kingspan layer. As long as your roof is deep enough. If not, and you have to start using an eke, then it's an extra layer of hassle.

It is not really required, but if there is space to place the squares on top the crown boards for winter it won't do any harm.

Thanks all...

B+ , I don't think they need it was asking as I have it now is it worth adding and would it make any difference.

All 4 hives are very heavy from feeding and collecting from ivy. Last time I looked some weeks back they were full of bees and lots of brood and stores so I'm hoping for all 4 to come through winter safely.

It won't make much difference to the bees, but it might keep SWMBO happy. That's got to be worth something.
