Now even the Daily Telgrapgh gets into the act.. in its Business pages..

"The bee crisis has been treated as a niche concern until now, but as the UN's index of food prices hits an all time-high, it is becoming urgent to know whether the plight of the honey bee risks further exhausting our food security.

Between 80pc and 90pc of animal pollination of crops comes from domesticated honey bees Photo: GETTYBy Ambrose Evans-Pritchard, International Business Editor 8:30PM GMT 06 Feb 2011
Almost a third of global farm output depends on animal pollination, largely by honey bees.

These foods provide 35pc of our calories, most of our minerals, vitamins, and anti-oxidants, and the foundations of gastronomy. Yet the bees are dying – or being killed – at a disturbing pace.

The story of "colony collapse disorder" (CCD) is already well-known to readers of The Daily Telegraph.

Some keep hives at home and have experienced this mystery plague, and doubtless have strong views on whether it is caused by parasites, or a virus, or use of pesticides that play havoc with the nervous system of young bees, or a synergy of destructive forces coming together"

The usual missinformed rubbish !

I wonder how Einstein would be interested on bees. It was second II world war and it killed 80 million people. Chinese civilian were killed most, about 20 mil.
Russian population was killed 20 mil and relatively the most were killed in Poland, 16%.

That is a big HYPE!

CCD is only USA. Many has such opinion that when US bees have collected to south, they starve there and die for lack of multi floral pollen,

Canada has no CCD.

These news are just a great HYPE.

In UK hive number rised 60% in 2 years. We are sure that population of Britain will follow the bee stock. But they should be quicker than rabits.

Did Malthus also get it wrong on his hypothesis on world population?

or did the Harbur process of Nitrogen phosphate / ammonia (NH3) production further allow increase world populations?

Bubonic plagues have and other epidemics descimated world populations ..... hopefully the humble bumble and other pollinators can beat mans tide of "cash ~ crop ~ icides"?

Einstein probably said lots of other things too

.
Some mister calculated a year when our capital city will sink into horse dung.
Then some invented an automobile.

It was not Albert Einstein that made the quote but Alber N Stein, an American beekeeper, however through translation to Europe it was assumed at that time they meant Albert Einstein.

If you say his name with an American slant it does sound like Ein…`N`…Stein.
